Tired of putting up with a small master bedroom closet with inadequate space and a worn master bathroom, Ted and Missy Brown decided enough was enough. The dated sunken tub/shower that required stepping into about one-and-a-half feet was “no fun,” Ted recalls. “Our desire was to get an up-to-date master bedroom suite with all the storage and closet space we’d ever need.”

The Browns decided that while they were at it, they would give a few other areas inside and outside of their Maitland home some attention, too. The Browns asked PSG Construction to work with their architect, Alex Stone, to help them reach their goals.

To give Ted and Missy the space they needed in their master bedroom suite, PSG Construction gutted the old bedroom and bath. They removed the existing exterior wall of the bedroom and doubled the bedroom and bath area by adding 300 square feet. To address the Brown’s desire for plenty of storage, PSG added his and her closets and a built-in entertainment center flanked by ceiling-to-floor windows. For additional storage and display space, a set of built-in bookcases frame the French doors leading out to the patio and pool area. A new wood floor brings warmth to the room and compliments the painted built-in furniture.

The new master bath gives Ted and Missy the pampering touches they were looking for with more room, cultured marble countertops, new wood cabinetry, and rich ceramic flooring. The awkward sunken tub/shower was replaced with a spacious 6 foot square shower with twin shower heads.

Since their home was built in the mid 70’s and appeared dated in other areas, PSG Construction added a built-in entertainment center to the family room, installed a new wood floor, and replaced the old popcorn-style ceiling with a tongue-in-groove ceiling. In the kitchen, bulky 6” recessed lights were replaced with smaller 4” lights with halogen bulbs, that cast a softer light. A dimmer switch allows the mood of the room to be adjusted. The popcorn-style ceiling in the kitchen was replaced with a drywall finish. These few modifications bring warmth and character to an important part of the Brown’s home.

On the exterior, PSG Construction updated the home by replacing the wood siding with stucco. The roof, shutters and all of the windows were also replaced. New soffits were installed and the exterior trim was painted. To create a unified look, the back porch wall was finished with brick that mimics the brick entry at the front of the house. “The work that PSG did on the exterior of the house made a huge difference,” Ted says.

The renovation and addition give the Browns the storage space they desired and also brought style back into their home. “Our goal was to add value to the house and be able to enjoy it, too,” Ted remarks. “PSG succeeded. The renovation is beautiful…just what we wanted.”
