Mediterranean on the Golf Course

The arches of this Mediterranean style home in Reunion Resort & Club of Orlando are carried through to the interior of the house. The home is located on the 13th hole of the Traditions Course, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course.

In the spacious foyer, the impressive staircase leads to the second floor of this Mediterranean-inspired residence. A wood railing is contrasted with wrought iron spindles. Exposed stained oak treds and risers are accented with a stair runner. Artwork displayed at the second floor level emphasizes the height and spaciousness of the foyer.

Furniture grade cabinetry in Canadian maple complements the coordinating desk and affords a masculine touch to the office. Located off the foyer, the office includes plenty of understated but necessary storage space. The paned glass doors are stained to match the cabinetry, bringing cohesiveness to the space, as well as offering privacy.

In a true Mediterranean fashion, ceramic tile floors set the stage for memorable gatherings in the dining room. Overly spacious to allow for large affairs, the dining room is anchored by impressive columns and archways that connect the area to the great room. The double-sided gas fireplace serves both the dining room and great room, and a gracious chandelier complements the essence of the room.

Open to the dining room through a series of arches, the great room is a clever mix of casual elegance. Leather seating is contrasted with the Canadian maple furniture-grade built-in. An oriental carpet anchors the seating area, and the double-sided gas fireplace brings warmth to the room, regardless of the season.

The kitchen of this Mediterranean-inspired home was thoughtfully arranged to welcome socializing. Richly detailed custom cabinetry was constructed from Canadian maple with a coffee glaze. The countertops and backsplashes are Monet Brazilian granite, and a pre-cast stone hood serves as a focal point. The pantry adjacent to the refrigerator is accentuated with an arched niche above the showcase door. Coffeehouse quality beverages are provided by the built-in coffee station.

A statement of Mediterranean elegance, the master bedroom of this Reunion home offers a true refuge at the end of the day. The deep jeweled tones of the color palette successfully contrast with the neutral walls and painted moulding.

An arched doorway leads to the tranquil master bathroom. The focal point of the space is the step-up whirlpool tub which is encased by an archway and stately columns. Glass block tastefully adds lighting and drama to the oversized shower.

From the balcony located off the second floor game room, the homeowners have a splendid view of the 13th hole of the Traditions Course at Reunion, as well as Disney fireworks at night.

The Story

Reunion Home Satisfies Client's Yearning for Italian Hospitality

Building in Reunion Resort & Club of Orlando appealed to homeowners Patti and Tom McKeon, and to carry out their vision of a Mediterranean oasis in the middle of Central Florida, the McKeons sought the expertise of PSG Construction Inc.

Designed by Michael J. Sopoliga, the McKeon's home reflects the elegance and craftsmanship of a residence in Europe. Walking through the wide grand hall, the home gradually expands and unfolds to embrace the golf course view that dominates the rear elevation of the home. "We wanted to emphasize the rear view of our lot, which is why the master bedroom is in the front of the home," Tom explained. The McKeon's home is located on the 13th hole, known as Legends Corner of the spectacular Traditions Course (a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course). Given the setting of this magnificent home, this approach feels perfectly natural. "Because of our long, narrow lot (185 x 65), we did not want a tunnel," noted Patti. "I also wanted a nice dining room for entertaining."

Adding to the entertainment value of the dining room is the location of a sitting area next to the double-sided fireplace. This joins the family room through a series of arches and columns that open the view to the family room and beyond. As a result, the space feels like an interior courtyard leading to the ultimate destination– the gathering areas overlooking the pool and golf course. Enjoyment of this view is the raison d'etre for the entire home.
The gourmet kitchen reflects Patti's love of cooking. Hailing from a large Italian family, she now has the perfect kitchen for entertaining and enjoying the view along with her guests. Matt Carpenter of Busby Cabinets designed the richly detailed custom cabinetry throughout the home, including the kitchen (Canadian maple with a coffee glaze), the elegant media cabinet in the family room, the butler's pantry off the dining room, the home office, and the master bath. All of the countertops in the main areas of the home are Monet Brazilian granite.

The guest quarters, home theater, exercise room and their son's bedroom reside upstairs, along with the expansive game room with its deep balcony overlooking the signature golf course. Patti is proud to have selected all of the fabrics and furnishings in the home herself, including the incorporation of many furniture pieces from their previous residence in Windermere. This home represents her dream of living in a truly Mediterranean environment, right down to the color palette.

"It is such a privilege to live in this home and this community, near Disney and all the other theme parks," Patti reflected. "We can even see the fireworks at night from our balcony. We are delighted with our home and PSG. This home has truly exceeded our expectations."

With just the right mix of nostalgia and modern comforts, the newly constructed home offers the owners the best of both past and present…perfectly.
